FBLA Members Attend State Conference |
|
|
|
On April 14-16 the Rockcastle Co. ATC Chapter attended the
Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference
at the Galt House in Louisville, KY. Attending and competing
were members Meighan McCoy, Nicole McFerron, and Regina Rice.
Co-adviser Peggy Orberson accompanied them.
All members competed in team and individual competitive
events. Other activities included dances, workshops, guest
speakers, officer elections, and the awards ceremony. Members
also carved out enough time to visit the Louisville Slugger
Museum and the Hard Rock Café.
Regina Rice received 4th place in the Community Service
Project. Winners at the FBLA State Conference advance to
national competition in Anaheim, CA, June 25-28.

2009 State Skills USA Conference |
|
|
|
On
April 7-10 2009, six students from the Rockcastle County Area
Technology Center attended the 2009 State Skills USA
Conference in Louisville. The 6 students competed in various
leadership and skills competitions. More than 1,000 students
competed in more than 90 occupational and leadership skill
areas. Gordon Garner competed in Welding, Aaron Graves
competed in Welding sculpture, Devon Mason competed in
Industrial Motor Control, Miranda Lowery competed in Skills
Spelling, Stephanie Graves competed in Poster Contest, and
Brittany Vance competed in Extemporaneous Writing. Of those
that competed, Brittany Vance placed 3rd in the State. In
addition, all 6 students obtained their Kentucky Statesman
Certificate. The students were accompanied by Welding
Instructor Sherman Cook. We appreciate the hard work and
dedication to the club demonstrated by these students.
Skills USA Kentucky is a chapter of the national organization,
Skills USA that serves trade, industrial, and technical
students in area technology centers, public high schools,
career and technical centers, and community and technical
colleges state wide. Skills USA Kentucky has more than 5,600
student members annually, organized into more than 125
sections and all of the counties in the Commonwealth. Skills
USA Kentucky has served more than 1.5 million members.

Excellence Expo '08 |
|
|
|
On
December 5th, four Welding Technology Students from the
Rockcastle Area Technology Center attended the Excellence Expo
“08” at Bluegrass Community and Technical College Danville
Campus. Two students, Justin Thacker and Gordon Garner,
competed in a welding competition where they had to weld a
vertical V- groove with the Shielded Metal Arc process. Gordon
Garner placed fourth among those schools competing.
Additionally, Stephanie Graves and Angel Smith represented the
schools as delegates. All participants were given tours of the
college and were informed about the educational opportunities
offered at the Danville campus.

Woodrow Scott Welding Tournament |

On
October 3rd , 5 Welding Technology students from the
Rockcastle Area Technology Center participated in the Woodrow
Scott Welding Tournament at Somerset Community College.
Participants included Justin Thacker, Gordon Garner, Chris
Creasman, Stephanie Graves, and Aaron Graves. Their hard work
and dedication to their class is greatly appreciated. The
school also serves students in Automotive Technology,
Electrical Technology, Office Technology and Health Science
programs.

Skills USA Professional Development Day |

|
|
On November 7, 2008,
Fifty-two students from Rockcastle Area Technology Center
attended a Skills USA Professional Development Day at Levi
Jackson State Park. Students attending were from the
Automotive, Electrical and Welding programs. All members
present received their Kentucky Statesman Award. Skills USA
regional officers were also elected.
The results were as
follow: President J.T. Winkler, Vice-president Daniel Rehor,
Secretary Ellie Bryant, Reporter Matt Durham, Treasurer Dillon
Holden, Parliamentarian Stephanie Graves, and Chaplain Josh
Ballard. Advisors Kenneth Fannin, Mary Ann Childress, and
Sherman Cook accompanied the members on the trip. The advisors
would like to congratulate the members on their
accomplishments and dedication to Skills USA. Rockcastle ATC
serves students in Automotive Technology, Electrical
Technology, Welding Technology, Health Science and Office
Technology.
